Sony proposes TV services over

The Wall Street Journal, consumer electronics manufacturers are currently in talks with media companies on the launch of TV-like services that will be delivered to PlayStation 3 consoles and other devices that are connected.

In some cases, the offer makes sense: Sony already has a large potential customer base, as it will offer the service through a variety of devices such as the Internet-connected TVS, Blu-ray players and PlayStation 3. PS3, in particular, very interesting: the device has sold over 6 million units in the United States, and already has a large number of users of services such as video streaming, Netflix and Hulu Plus.

Cable, satellite and IPTV providers are already under pressure to raise prices and a weak economy. The number of new customers in the United States have mostly flat over the last few years, as consumers have purchased a new home and are forced to think twice about discretionary spending.

At the same time, the video services over-the-top grow dramatically. Despite the loss of subscribers because Netflix still has 40 percent more customers at the end of the third quarter from a year ago. And services like Hulu Plus and Amazon Prime video also seems to be taking off.
